Getting There
Road to Buenaventura
Getting There:
The property is located in between the towns of El Brujo and El Llano, in the district of Perez Zeledon,
in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. It is located 36 km to the north-west of San Isidro Del General,
and 12 km from the Pacific Ocean, equal distance apart from the coastal towns of Dominical and Quepos/Manuel Antonio.
The property is located on the north side of Rio Division, opposite the main public road. The northern side of the property,
which is made up of primary old-growth rainforest, is in close proximity to the Los Santos National Reserve.
The drive from San Isidro to the property takes approximately 1.5 hours, if you include a few stops
along the way to marvel at the breathtaking views of the valleys and Pacific Ocean, and for a mandatory
stop at the Santa Rosa pulperia for some road snacks (yuca chips and platanillos).
The road from San Isidro to Santa Rosa has recently been paved, and plans to extend the pavement to El Brujo and
out to the ocean are currently under development. From Santa Rosa to the property, the road
is grated and graveled. A small compact car can now drive from San Isidro to the El Brujo area, making the
property accesible to standard vehicles, small charter buses, and of course, 4x4s.
Currently, the only way to reach the property from the main road is to cross over Rio Division using a pedestrian-only
hammock bridge. A project to renovate the bridge is currently being organized and funded
for by the land owners who use the bridge to get to their properties on the north side of the river.
Local engineer Carlos Bermudez has evaluated the bridge, taken measurements, and will be
submitting a proposal in May 2003.
Future projects include the construction of a small vehicle bridge, which would be built adjacent to the hammock bridge.
The small vehicle bridge would mainly be used by staff to transport guest luggage, supplies, equipment and other materials.
Once across the bridge, a short 5 minute hike along a trail to the property takes you through a forest of large trees,
including a massive 600+ year old ceiba tree. The trail winds up to a clearing, where the formal property entrance
will eventually be located.
