Getting There

Along the trail towards Buenaventura, guests pass a Ceiba tree (Ceiba pentadra).
Ceiba trees (Silk Cotton trees) are one of the largest trees in the American tropics.
This tree is anywhere from 500-600 years old, dwarfing Gerardo and his horse in the photograph.

Various native beliefs are centered around Ceiba trees. Ceibas are known as the home
to the spirits of the forest. Throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, native beliefs about Ceibas
are passed down from generation to generation.
