About Rio Division:

Rio Division starts high up on the Cerro De La Muerte mountain peak, nearly 10,000 feet above sea level. The river works its way down through the southern edge of the biological reserve Cerro Vueltas, past the rural towns of Savegre Abajo, El Llano, and El Brujo, and connecting with Rio Savegre, which pours out to the Pacific Ocean, near the coastal town of Savegre.

Located almost directly across from the Buenaventura property, a natural river pool has formed from a split in the direction of the water current. During the dry season, the pool is 10-12 feet deep, and 13-14 feet deep during the wet season. A sandy beach borders the north side of the pool, which can be used to lounge and take in the sunshine.

During the dry season, the river rapids are Class I to lower Class II for rafting, kayaking, and canoeing. During the wet season, the rapids elevate the river to a Class II to Class III, providing for more adventurous whitewater river sporting. Rafting, kayaking and canoeing can be done at any time of the year. It takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours to raft from the property of Buenaventura out to the Pacific Ocean.
